My gorgeous teddy bear was given to my mum , then in Manchester, when she was expecting me. He has been with me for 70 years! He has travelled the ocean to Canada and now resides with me here. He used to growl when I tipped him up, his voice box is still inside, but he is now silent. Hard leatherette paws and feet, orange or yellow in colour, mohair of course. Glass eyes on one wire through his nose, sewn on snout and mouth. Stuffed with excelsior (straw?) and he has articulated arms and legs, so they move independently. He is 19 1/2” tall. There is a small tear in his left ear which I would love to be the place where a Steiff bear tag was, but I don’t think so. He is called ‘Sowood’...that is the first word I ever spoke and I was pointing to the bear, so my parents named him that. I would dearly love to know who made him...and whether anyone else has such a treasure...perhaps they could meet!
