Steiff bear in african dress
My bear was a gift, so I don't know a lot. She is a dark brown. There is a yellow ear tag that says "made in germany by steiff knopf im ohr" in red. A number is included:665431.
She is dressed in an african sarong style dress with a headscarf. She has a metal arm bracelet and ear hoops. She is approximately 12-13" high. There is also an oval leather tag tied to one arm. It reads "polo bear 406."
My friend is African-American so she was attracted to the bear's attire. I know she went to the store several times before finally purchasing the bear. She ended up bartering some services for part of the price. (she is a doctor and provided some physical exams for children in low-income families.)
We are down-sizing, so I'm considering selling some collectibles. Having an idea of a fair market value will help a lot. Would you have an opinion on whether it would be better to sell to an individual or put the bear in an auction?
