I was born in Holyhead ,North Wales ,U.K. in 1939 and was given this Teddy .The family were not well off financially so I can’t imagine it was expensive but it was just prior to World War 2 and just before my father volunteered to join the army .
It is mohair with a crinkly sounding stuffing .The glass eyes are clear ,showing the colour of the fur through and the centres are black . The nose is sewn with tan coloured thread sewn vertically going down to shape a mouth .If you punch it hard it is possible to get a sound from the growler .The head ,both arms and both legs are jointed .The palms and soles of the feet are brown velvet .
Damage :- signs of wear are visible on the edges of the ears ,the stitching on the nose is missing on part of the right side ,wear on the edges of the paws and tips of the feet .There are a few bald patches but nothing extensive ,the biggest is on the back of the left leg .In the areas where the mohair has gone the cloth underneath looks like sacking .
It would be interesting to know more about Teddy so that I would be able to leave his history for my family .There is no-one I can ask as at my age I have outlived anyone who might know anything .Thanking ,in advance ,anyone who is able to help .
