My best friend's bear went missing

My best friend was staying at a hotel in west Texas a few months ago and accidentally left her bear there. After making arrangements to have the hotel manager to ship it back to her, and a few weeks of back and forth, they just stopped returning her calls and emails. She recently learned that they misplaced the bear and decided not to tell her. This past weekend, another friend of ours happened to be visiting family in the area and stopped by the hotel in person to ask about it; that's when all this came to light. Understandably, she's heartbroken and plans on filing a complaint with the hotel chain. With any luck, it might turn up if there's more pressure coming from above, but it's been so long that I'm not really counting on it. In the meantime, I'm trying to quietly see if I learn more about her bear and where it came from. Obviously, I could never replace it... but I'm hoping to be able to find one similar.
She's had it since early childhood, so it was probably new in the late '70s or early '80s. Based on the picture, it's probably between about 12 and 16 inches long (about the right size to fit in a medium USPS flat-rate box). Her family would have lived in Connecticut at the time, if that makes any difference. The snout looks relatively short and flat and its nose is quite small. I can't tell if the eyes are also just really beady and small, or missing entirely. The fur is obviously quite matted from age, but appears to be fairly long except for on the bottom of the feet. I can't see much more detail because of the piece of paper in the way. Any help would be so, so appreciated.
