Brownie Teddy Bear
I was gifted this teddy bear around 40 years ago when a relative, originally from Newton, Massachusetts, whom we were visiting alerted my parents to the fact that my curious George monkey had been recalled. I was allowed to swap my monkey for one from this relatives collection. I picked a sweet brown teddy bear that I promptly named Brownie. He originally seems to have had a music box as there is a hard box inside the back of his torso and has some evidence of a ribbon around his neck. He has really soft fur that is worn off on most of his body but inside his ears and back of his legs (see photos). Twice he has had his face chewed by dogs and my grandmother repaired one of these incidents. I don’t remember what they were originally made of but my grandmother replaced them with felt. And my mother sewed the felt pads on a number of years ago when the fabric of his paws and feet wore through and stuffing was falling out. He is an adorable and well loved 12” tall and 10” sitting.
