Billy Bear
My grandfather gave me my Billy Bear when I was five years old. I loved my grandfather dearly and I have loved my Billy Bear For the past sixty-eight years. Now, after living in our home for thirty-nine years, we are moving and needing to give away or sell so much.
Believe me when I tell you that I have cherished this teddy bear. He reminds me of my grandfather.
I don't have many antique shops near me but called one this morning asking about valuing Steiff bears. The shop owner gave me the number of someone who collects Steiff teddy bears. I didn't think to look to see if Billy still had his Steiff tag on his left ear. The truth is I thought I had taken it off when I was little. I remember trying to, anyway.
I met the collector this afternoon and was telling her that I'd removed the tag while at the same time I was feeling Billy's ear. Lo and behold, Billy still has his tag. The collector offered $500. I told her I needed to now check on line to be more certain of the price I ought to sell him for. When I looked on line I saw that the prices range wildly.
Can you help, please? We are moving in a little over a week. Not great timing.
Billy is 24 inches in height, has golden fur, has glass eyes and is as endearing and wonderful as ever. The threads of black yarn that make his nose are partially worn away.
He still has a bit of his growl, though.
Pleased let me know what you think is a good price for him. On the one hand, he is priceless. On the other hand,.....
Thank you!
