Blue Bear

Blue Bear

This lovely bear was passed down to me from my grandad who sadly passed away 4 months before I was born in 1980, he had given the bear to my mother and said he wanted this given to his grandchild.

Sadly the bear has faded slightly but I expected this due to the age, I am just wondering if anyone knew anything about the bear...... I think it may be from 1960 era ?

Any help please email me dave.reynolds6@me.com

Hi
Looks to me like he may be a Wendy Boston Bear. These bears were big in the 1960's and a very distinctive style. Short straight limbs and filled with rubber pieces or solid piece of foam.

I have a similar bear myself although mine is all white. You can see my bear here https://www.totallyteddybears.com/white-teddy-bear-1960s.html

I don't think they have a lot of value unfortunately but I would consider them collectibles and who knows in the future they could become more sought after. I love mine and it has lots of memories for me so I would never part with mine.

Wendy Boston
by: TeddyBearStudio

I have this bear both my own as a child and more recently sold several. It is almost certainly Wendy Boston (although others did make very similar looking bears). If I had to put money on it though, Wendy Boston. The company closed down in 1976, so it could be one that remained unsold until 1980 when your Grandad bought him.

I had a bear that I'm certain was the exact same!

Unfortunately, I've misplaced it.
I've been trying to find what it is so I can (hopefully) get a new one and pass it down to my children

Blue and White Ted

I have a bear very similar to this one, although he has no fur and one ear. My aunt got him for me in 1977 when I was born. I have an identical white one as well. They were from boots the pharmacy. In 1982 my Grandmother brought me an identical blue bear in order to try and replace my favourite one, it didn't work! But they were still making them then.

I have the same teddy given to me in the 70s
by: Anonymous

I still have this teddy, I born in the 70s I have always had it I think my grandparents bought it for me or I inherited it, imaginatively called him 'Teddy'. My cousin had a similar one called him 'bluey'. plastic eyes and plastic nose, short arms and short legs.

Pedigree bear
by: Anonymous

He is a Pedigree bear from the 1960s. I have the same one but in pink, always been known as Pinky Bear, but he is quite faded now. Still has some of the original label on his inner leg, says Pedigree Made in Ireland. You can look up the manufacturer and find out more about the Pedigree toy brand.

I have one too.

I have a bear like this one. I was born in 1970, so I think it would be from the 1970's. My bear has a tag that reads "Krueger NYC" on it. My bear has a hard circular thing in its back that used to make a sound of some kind. Mine has lost all eyes and nose and most of his hair. He was carried everywhere!

I had this bear. I think it looks a lot like mine. My parents bought it for me when I was in the hospital having Heart Surgery in 1970. If it is in fact the same bear, it is a Gund. Mine also had a squeaky in the paw. I loved this bear and would carry it everywhere. I would stand at the washing Machine and dryer and scream until it was finished. I still long for this bear. When I was about 10 or 12, my nephew who came from the Philippines, lost it. I have never found it. It makes me terribly sad. I am 46 now, and I still long for this bear!

Blue Teddy Bear

Hi,

I had this same blue bear - I was given it as a gift when I was a toddler - and a younger friend, born in 1980, also had one.

I don't know which shop or brand the bears were from, but these three are all from different areas of Britain, so maybe they were sold in a chain store.

Perhaps your grandad bought the bear for you not long before he passed away.
